Common Symptoms from Varicose Veins

Many of the symptoms associated with varicose veins are very similar to symptoms of other health-related problems. Most people don't even realize that their symptoms come from varicose veins and end up taking a while to discover the root of the problem, unfortunately delaying care. Here are several symptoms to be aware of associated with varicose veins.

  • Swelling in the legs & ankles
  • Heaviness
  • Itching around veins
  • Achy or heavy legs
  • Bulging or twisted veins
  • Burning or tingling in the legs
  • Pain from standing or sitting for an extended time
  • Veins that are dark purple or blue

Causes of Varicose Veins

The exact cause of varicose veins can not be attributed to just one factor and can vary from patient to patient. Over time, and sometimes from trauma, veins become damaged, causing bulging or twisted veins near the surface of the skin. While some causes can be prevented some people are predisposed to developing varicose veins in their lifetime. Causes of varicose veins may include:

  • Family History
  • Personal Health History
  • Lifestyle
  • Gender
  • Hormonal Changes
  • Age

Treatment for Varicose Veins

Varithena® is an excellent treatment option for those suffering from varicose veins. Varithena® uses a microform to fill and treat the desired section of the vein to collapse it, eliminating blood flow through the damaged vein and rerouting it through healthier ones. Collapsing the damaged vein with Varithena foam can help alleviate varicose vein symptoms and possibly eliminate them altogether.

Ultrasound testing will be conducted to determine if Veritheina® is the right treatment for your individual needs. The Varithena® procedure is a simple in-office procedure that takes around 1 hour from beginning to end.

Tepas Vein Center recommends Varithena® for all patients who meet the criteria as it is a minimally invasive and highly effective procedure that offers fast recovery.

Does Insurance Cover the Cost?

Office consultations, diagnostic testing (ultrasound), and procedures such as Varithena® are covered by most insurance plans. However, each specific insurance plan may have unique criteria or limits in the policy that cover only certain treatment options or possibly only cover treatments such as Varithena® after other treatment methods have been implemented.

Tepas Vein Center has a dedicated pre-authorization department that works to determine what coverages are available that fit the patient's needs so that out-of-pocket expenses are kept to a minimum.

Patients can expect to pay standard out-of-pocket co-pays for seeing a specialist for a consultation or any follow-up visits.

  • Insurance plans may have co-pay, co-insurance, or deductibles
  • Self-pay & HSA Plans accepted

Please remember insurance policies vary and coverages can be different for each patient.
