Your Leg Pain and Varicose Veins

Have you wondered why your legs are achy, often feel heavy, get cramps, or even have a burning sensation? You may be experiencing several symptoms associated with varicose veins.

While some symptoms associated with varicose veins are more obvious, like veins that appear twisted or bulge, vein pain in the legs can often be overlooked as a symptom. It is important to investigate these symptoms and get to the root of your leg pain, as varicose veins tend to get worse over time.

Leg pain can also be a warning sign of more complex vein issues such as blood clots which can become major medical issues if not treated quickly. Blood clots can cause pain, redness, and warmth in the affected leg, particularly if they occur near the surface of the skin.

Leg pain or vein pain in the legs caused by varicose veins can be a bothersome and sometimes debilitating condition, but effective treatment options are available. By understanding the underlying causes and symptoms of varicose veins, Tepas Vein Center can personalize a treatment plan to address the symptoms associated with varicose veins.

What Causes Leg Pain?

Often times patients have a feeling of heaviness or aching in their legs, this is a result of decreased blood circulation in the legs as normal blood flow is reduced because of the swollen varicose veins. Varicose veins can also become inflamed which can cause pain and tenderness in the legs. Sitting or standing for prolonged periods can also bring pain or swelling as the weakened valves in your veins do not work correctly allowing blood to pool up and not flow properly.

Will Insurance Cover Treatment?

We accept most major insurance and most plans will cover varicose vein treatments. Because insurance plans, coverages, and deductibles are different, we advise you to call your insurance company and discuss what benefits are available to you for the treatment of varicose veins. Typically you will pay your standard specialist co-pay for your consultation.  You will likely have an appointment for ultrasound testing and then a separate follow-up appointment to discuss the results of the testing. During your follow up the provider will determine the best course of action to schedule you for one of our treatment options. Before the actual treatment, we will work with your insurance company to determine any out-of-pocket or co-pay expense that you will be responsible for.
